Hounslow 1-5 Gloucester B by Paul Wixey

Gloucester B were warmly welcomed to Hounslow for their first encounter in a number of years.

The visitors went straight on the offensive and created a number of opportunities without really threatening the goal. The home side however began to utilise the slope and make some attacking forays of their own and keeper Cornwell had to be alert to thwart two well worked through balls.

A period of scrappy play followed as neither side was able to exert any authority on the game. A corner by the hosts led to the opening goal when Marlow was left unmarked at the far post and he was able to head home unchallenged to give Hounslow a half time lead.

The away side came out for the second half in a much more determined fashion, winning their tackles and driving forward at every opportunity. Taylor led the way with a surging run through the centre and Easterbrook began running at the defence from his wide right position and did not stop doing so for the rest of the game, beating players and delivering crosses effectively in a great personal display.

Eventually the pressure told and Lock went through on goal to equalise and almost immediately afterwards the same player put the Yellows in front, latching on to a through ball to slot home despite the best efforts of the keeper.

With Gloucester now dominant in all areas of the field the game was played almost entirely in their opposition’s half and Cornwell had to be content with watching the succession of planes taking off from nearby Heathrow airport.

Defenders Campbell, Irvine and Harding prevented every attack from getting over the halfway line and every other player spent the second half peppering the Hounslow goal with shots; Flatt, Taylor and Fieldhouse all going close. Eventually Lock completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot and Inyinbor and Fieldhouse added to the tally to give the Bs a fully deserved 5-1 win.

Gloucester B: Cornwell; Harding, Irvine, Cooper, Arrowsmith, Inyinbor, Taylor, Fieldhouse, Lock. Subs: Flatt, Campbell, Easterbrook.
