Gloucester A 3 Woking A 3 by P.Arity

A last minute equaliser from Alfie Townsend earned GPSFA’s A Squad a share of the spoils in an entertaining Cotswold League encounter at Longlevens.

The hosts opened well, Gore playing in Jenner to give Gloucester a second minute lead and the city team could have been three up had keeper Lane not denied Jenner on two further, quickfire occasions. However, a well struck free kick from Weller drew Woking level midway through the half and Di Palma pounced on defensive hesitancy to put the visitors ahead.

Gloucester continued to press with Coldridge, Roddis, Gore and Townsend having the upper hand (or foot) in midfield, but Woking hung on to their lead until the interval courtesy of some resolute defending, and despite persistent pressure from the homesters the trend continued after the break.

Woking defended a succession of corners well as the visitors maintained their advantage throughout the third quarter, but the city side eventually restored parity midway through the second half with an excellent goal created by Richards, Roddis and Townsend and very well finished first touch by Jenner.

With Pledger pushed into midfield to provide more width on the left, crosses from both the city captain and right-sided midfielder Coldridge weren’t able to be converted by inrushing players who were getting into good areas without quite being able to add the finishing touch.

Di Palma though was continuing to be a threat on the counter and the Woking striker forced a good save from Troke before, with five minutes remaining, Weller’s volley following a right wing corner restored the visitors’ lead.

The city side however maintained their intensity and demonstrated their resolve when, in the final minute, Townsend powerfully headed Richards’ corner back across the keeper for a dramatic leveller.

Gloucester A: Troke; Weir-Roberts, Richards, Pledger; Coldridge, Gore, Roddis, Townsend; Jenner. Sub: Hylton.
